Until recently, many people believed that the brain has completed its development by teens. However, scientists found out the brain still grows as much during teens as it did during early childhood.
You may notice that your children seems to be getting more forgetful as they are in their teens. One parent told us a story. Her daughter, Mary, was invited to take part in a birthday party on Thursday last week. Mum reminded her of the party on Wednesday evening. Before Mary left for school on Thursday, mum asked her where she needed to go after school that day. “The birthday party,” Mary answered as she walked out the door. On Thursday evening, when Mum went to the birthday party to pick up Mary, she found that Mary was not among them. In surprise, she called home. Mary quickly answered the phone.”Why aren’t you at the party?” asked her surprised mother. “I forgot,” answered Mary.
Why does this often happen for parents and kids of this age? Because the brain of a teen is growing so fast that it is inefficient(效率低的). Think of a boom town and it is developing faster than the builders can put up the things and clear out rubbish. The teenage brain is something like this town the building work needs to be finished, the work place needs to be cleaned up, and all the tools need to be returned to their places. The reason why your teens can seem badly planned in their thinking is that their brains are growing. As they develop, they can be better planned, and may forget less.
B. travel journal D. science magazine
8 / 13
What can parents do about it? The first step is agreeing that it really is happening and your child doesn’t mean to be against the rules . Although time will finally take care of the issue, you can support your children during this time by gently but firmly help them. 56. According to the scientists, _________.
A. parents are always forgetful
B. the brain has completed its development by teens C. children are more forgetful than their parents recently D. the brain grows as much during teens as it did in childhood 57. The writer takes Mary’s story as an example to show that _________.
A. Mary didn’t go well with her mother B. Mary didn’t want to go to her friend’s party C. being forgetful often happen for the teenagers D. parents always don’t understand their child’ s feeling 58. The reason why the teens are often forgetful is that _________.
A. the brain is something like a town B. the brain of a teen is growing so fast C. teens are badly planned in their thinking D. a lot of things needs to be finished for them 59. What can parents do about it?
A. Support and help their children. B. Plan everything for their children.
C. Know that everything is right for their children.
D. Understand that their children want to be against the rules. 60. What is the best title of this passage?
A. Our Brains Are Growing So Fast. B. Share Our Ideas About Forgetfulness. C. How Parents Experienced Forgetfulness.

I’m glad to hear that you’ve come to Guangzhou to learn Chinese. In your letter, I know that you and your parents are interested in reading. Actually, there are two bookshops near your house in Guangzhou. They are Zhifu Book Store and Xinhua Book Store. Zhifu Book Store covers an area of 88m2, and it is smaller than Xinhua Book Store, which is 125m2 . But Zhifu Book Store is closer than Xinhua Book Store. Yet, I think Xinhua Book Store has more books than Zhifu Book Store. For example, you can find many kinds of books like storybook, encyclopedia, books on Chinese learning, and you can also buy some work of art, model planes there. However, there are just some textbooks, and notebooks in Zhifu Book Store. And I would like to advise you to go to Xinhua Book Store because it was just built 2 years ago, while Zhifu Book Store was built 20 years ago. And Xinhua Book Store also provides some drinking like coffee and tea. It may be a better choice for you.
Yours, Li Hua
