Dear Billy,
Hi! It's me, your friend Tommy from China. I'm writing you this letter to invite you to come visit me in my hometown for the summer vacation. It's going to be so much fun if you can make it! My hometown is called Hangzhou and it's in the eastern part of China. Hangzhou is known as one of the most beautiful cities in all of China because of its stunning natural scenery. We have these breathtaking mountains called the West Lake Hills surrounding a huge freshwater lake called the West Lake. The water in the lake is so clear and peaceful. There are also lots of ancient temples, pagodas, gardens and museums around the lake area. It's a very historical and cultural place.
In the summertime, the weather in Hangzhou is perfect - not too hot and not too cold. The sunny days are warm but there's usually a nice breeze coming off the lake to keep you cool. At night, the lake reflects all the twinkling lights from the city and it
looks so magical. My favorite part is riding on the boats across the lake when everything is all lit up!
There are so many amazing things for us to do and see when you visit Hangzhou. We can start by going on a hike up one of the West Lake Hills for some incredible views. They have all these cool trails that wind through bamboo forests and past waterfalls. At the top, you can see the whole lake below with the city surrounding it. So pretty!
Then we can explore all the historical sites around the lake area. There's the Leifeng Pagoda which is this giant tower that's over 1,000 years old. You can even climb up to the top and look out over the entire city. We also have to check out some of the ancient temples like the Lingyin Buddhist Temple with its huge carved Buddha statues.
For gardens, my favorite one is the Guo Garden because it has a maze of pathways that go around different ponds and pavilions. The gardens always have the most beautiful flowers in bloom during summer too. We can get some ice cream or street food snacks and spend hours just wandering around and exploring.
Another cool thing in Hangzhou is the China National Silk Museum. It shows the history of silk making which originated
here a long, long time ago. You can see the entire silk production process from start to finish. At the end, we can buy high quality silk products at the gift shop to take home as souvenirs.
Of course, we can't forget to try all the delicious Hangzhou food! Since we're right by the West Lake, we have to eat some mouth-watering West Lake fish in vinegar sauce. It's the
signature dish. We also need to have Longjing shrimp, which are fresh little shrimp cooked in a special green tea broth that's out of this world good. For dessert, be sure to taste the Hangzhou bore fritters - they are like little donut hole pastries that just melt in your mouth.
In the evenings, we can walk along the lake's edge to see singers, dancers and street performers putting on shows in the parks. Or we can hop on a bike and go on a night cycle through the illuminated Hefang Old Street full of quaint shops and vendors. This area makes you feel like you've traveled back in time!
There's just so much awesome stuff to experience in my hometown, Billy. We're going to have an absolute blast together. Your summer visit would not be complete without coming to the amazing city of Hangzhou. Please say you'll come! I can't wait to be your tour guide and share my favorite place with you.
Let me know if your parents say it's okay for you to visit. If so, I'll help coordinate the travel plans with our families. Getting excited just thinking about your trip to Hangzhou! Talk to you soon! Your friend, Tommy

Dear Tommy,
How are you? I'm writing you this letter to invite you to come visit me in my hometown over summer vacation! It would be so much fun to have you here. We could do all sorts of cool things together.
My hometown is called Guangzhou and it's a big, bustling city in southern China. The weather here is usually warm and humid, especially in the summer when temperatures can reach over 90°F! You'll probably want to bring lightweight clothes and be prepared to sweat a lot. But don't worry, there are lots of places with air conditioning to cool off.
Guangzhou has been around for a really, really long time - over 2,200 years! It used to be a major trading port along the
famous Silk Road connecting China to Europe and the Middle East. Today, it's still a major business and manufacturing hub. Maybe we could go tour one of the huge factories that make electronics or toys and see how they're made. I think that would be fascinating to see all the machines and assembly lines.
Of course, no visit to Guangzhou would be complete without trying all the delicious food! Cantonese cuisine is famous around the world, and we have some of the best restaurants and street food vendors right here. My favorites are dim sum (those little steamed dumplings and buns), wonton noodle soup, and egg tarts for dessert. Be warned...a lot of the food is quite spicy and flavorful!
We'll have to go to one of the bustling open-air markets like Qingping or Xinghua. It's crazy seeing all the vendors selling fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and even live animals like snakes, turtles, and chickens! Just walking through smelling all the different aromas is an experience. You can practice your bargaining skills and try to get good deals on souvenirs.
For a break from the busy city, we could go on a day trip to one of the nearby islands like Shamian Island. It has a very different, almost Mediterranean vibe with tree-lined streets, churches, and colonial European architecture leftover from when
it was occupied by France and Britain in the 1800s. We could rent bikes and just pedal around exploring.
There are also lots of beautiful parks in Guangzhou perfect for picnics, hiking, or just relaxing amidst nature like Yuexiu Park and Baiyun Mountain. The views from the top of Baiyun
Mountain are incredible - you can see the whole city skyline. And if you're feeling adventurous, we could ride the cable cars or hike up the trails.
No trip would be complete without experiencing some of the history and culture. We'll have to check out ancient sites like the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King and the Chen Clan Ancestral Temple. They have artifacts and exhibits dating back thousands of years to the Han Dynasty! We could spend hours just wandering around learning about the past. At night, we'd have to go see the dazzling lights and shows along the Pearl River. The buildings and skyscrapers are covered in colorful, flashing lights that reflect on the water. Sometimes they even have music and light/water shows synchronized to music which is so cool! The Guangzhou Tower is one of the tallest buildings and has an awesome view from the observation deck near the top.
Those are just some of the highlights I can think of off the top of my head. But there's no way we could do everything in just one visit - you'd probably have to come back multiple times! Guangzhou has such a rich history and culture, combined with incredible modern amenities. I know you'd absolutely love it. So what do you think? Are you ready to buy your plane ticket and come experience my hometown for yourself? Just let me know when you can come and we'll start planning the biggest, most awesome adventure ever! I can't wait to show you around and make so many fun memories together. Your friend, [Your Name]

Dear Emily,
Hi! It's me, your best friend Michael from China. How are you doing over there in England? I'm writing this letter to invite you to come visit me in my hometown during our next school break. It will be so much fun if you can make it!
Let me tell you all about where I live. My hometown is called Zhangjiajie and it's in the Hunan province in southern China. It's
famous all around the world for having the most amazing scenery with tons of tall sandstone pillars that stick up from the ground. The pillars look like skyscrapers but they were made by nature over millions of years from wind and rain! Can you believe that?
Actually, the inspiration for the landscape on the planet Pandora in the movie Avatar came from the pillars and
mountains in Zhangjiajie. Isn't that so cool? The whole area looks like another world with misty forests, deep canyons, caves, waterfalls, and those incredible pillars reaching up into the clouds. The highest one is called the Southern Sky Column and it's over 2,000 feet tall! Just imagine standing at the bottom and looking all the way up. Your neck would get so sore.
My favorite part is the Bailong Elevator, which is a giant glass elevator built along the side of one of the tallest quartzite pillars. It's the tallest outdoor elevator in the world at over 1,000 feet high! You step inside and it takes you straight up to the top of the pillar so you can walk across bridges and wooden pathways looking out over everything below. I've ridden it a bunch of times but it still makes my stomach feel a little funny looking straight down through the glass floor at the tiny trees and buildings far underneath.
If you come visit, we can ride that elevator and also hike some of the trails that wind through the pillars and mountains. We'll need to bring good walking shoes and maybe some hiking sticks because some of the paths are steep with lots of stairs. But it's worth it to see the incredible views! There are places where you can step out onto cliffside viewpoints with nothing around you but miles of misty forests and quartzite pillars jutting up everywhere. It feels like being in a magic kingdom from a storybook.
We should definitely go to the Huanglongxi ancient town too. That means \"Yellow Dragon\" village and it has all these old wooden buildings from hundreds of years ago nestled in a valley between the pillars. The houses have curved roofs and wooden beams holding them up, with stone pathways winding through. People still live in some parts of the village, running little shops and restaurants. We can walk around exploring, buy some traditional snacks from the food vendors, and check out the river that flows right through the middle of town.
For more adventurous stuff, we could try some of the high-altitude walking paths that are built along the side of cliffs with just steel cables for handrails. Those are definitely not for anyone afraid of heights! I'll understand if you want to skip those
and stick to the normal hiking trails. But if you're feeling brave, the views from those cliff paths are beyond incredible.
There are also water activities we could do like boat rides through canyons and under waterfalls, or even rafting down some faster rivers if we want a bigger thrill. And for a break from all the hiking, we can visit places in the bigger towns near the park to experience more of the Chinese culture. I know you'll love exploring the markets and trying all the different foods like dumplings, noodles, hotpot, and candied fruit skewers!
My parents already said it would be okay for you stay at our house with us while you visit. We have an extra bedroom you can use. Just let me know ahead of time what Western foods you want me to ask my mom to get for meals in addition to the Chinese dishes she'll make. She's an awesome cook so be prepared to eat way too much!
I really hope you can come, Emily! Having my best friend from England visit me here would be a dream come true. We'll make so many amazing memories exploring the breathtaking scenery and epic landscapes. Zhangjiajie will blow your mind, I promise. Just start bugging your parents about letting you come as soon as you finish reading this!
Write back soon and let me know if your parents say you can make the trip. I'll be counting down the days until your arrival! Your pal, Michael

Dear Samantha,
Hi! It's me, your friend Emma from China. How are you doing? I'm writing this letter to invite you to come visit me in my hometown during the summer vacation. It's going to be so much fun!
Let me tell you all about my amazing city. I live in a place called Hangzhou, which is the capital of Zhejiang Province. It's a really big and busy city, with lots of tall buildings, busy streets, and people everywhere! But it's also super beautiful, with lots of parks, gardens, and even a huge lake right in the middle of the city.
The lake is called West Lake, and it's definitely the most famous part of Hangzhou. It's huuuuge – you could probably fit like a million swimming pools in it! The lake is surrounded by gorgeous hills and gardens, with ancient temples and pavilions
dotted all around. My favorite part is the Su Causeway, which is a long bridge that crosses over the lake. You can walk along it and see the whole lake stretched out in front of you. It's just breathtaking!
But that's not all Hangzhou has to offer. We also have the most amazing food! You've got to try our Longjing shrimp, which is shrimp cooked with delicious Longjing tea leaves. And of course, you can't leave without tasting our famous Xiaolong bao – those are the soupy dumplings that are so yummy. I can already imagine us sitting in a little restaurant, stuffing our faces with as many xiaolongbao as we can eat!
If we get tired of eating (which I doubt will happen), there are so many fun things we can do in Hangzhou. We could go on a boat ride around West Lake, or visit the Lingyin Temple to see the giant Buddha statue. Oh, and you'll love the Hefang Street – it's an ancient street filled with little shops and restaurants, and it's always buzzing with people and activities.
And you know what the best part is? During the summer, Hangzhou has these incredible nighttime shows where they project colorful lights and images onto the mists rising from West Lake. It's like something out of a dream! We could pack a
picnic basket, find a spot by the lake, and watch the show together. Wouldn't that be the coolest?
I can't wait for you to experience all the amazing things my city has to offer. We're going to have the time of our lives! Just think of all the adventures we'll have together, exploring every nook and cranny of Hangzhou. We can try on traditional Chinese outfits, learn to make local handicrafts, and maybe even take a class to learn how to speak a few words in my language.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention – my family is really excited to meet you too! My parents are already planning all sorts of fun activities and trips for us. And my little brother can't wait to have someone new to play video games with (just a warning, he's really good at them!).
So what do you say, Samantha? Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Just let me know when you can come, and we'll start making all the preparations. I'll be counting down the days until your arrival! Your bestie, Emma

Dear Jackie,
Hi! It's me, your friend Emily from China. How are you doing? I'm writing this letter to invite you to come visit me in my hometown during your next school break. My hometown is called Zhuhai and it's a really cool place with lots of fun things to do. I can't wait to show you around!
Zhuhai is a coastal city in southern China, right next to Macau. The weather here is amazing – it's sunny and warm pretty much all year round. That means we can do lots of outdoor activities when you visit. I think you'll really like the beaches. The sand is soft and golden, and the ocean water is bright blue and refreshing. We can build sandcastles, go swimming, and look for seashells together.
But there's way more to do than just go to the beach. Zhuhai has some awesome theme parks that I know you'd love. There's Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, which is a huge aquarium and oceanarium. You can see sharks, dolphins, whales, and all kinds of cool sea creatures up close. They also have rides and shows. Then there's Chimelong Paradise, which has the craziest roller coasters I've ever been on! The loops and drops make my stomach flip. I got scared at first but then it became so much fun.
We could also go hiking on some of the trails around the city. There are forests and hills with beautiful views. Maybe we'll even spot some monkeys or other wildlife! And if we get tired from all the walking, we can take the cable cars up to the mountain tops to rest.
Of course, you can't come to China without trying the amazing food. Zhuhai has restaurants serving delicious Cantonese cuisine like dim sum, wonton noodles, and roasted goose. My favorite is the BBQ pork buns – they're so soft and savory! We could also get snacks from street vendors, like egg waffles, stinky tofu (it smells way worse than it tastes, I promise), and dragon's beard candy. Don't worry, I'll teach you how to eat everything with chopsticks.
There are lots of fun festivals and events in Zhuhai too, depending on when you visit. The Zhuhai International Circus festival happens every November and we could watch
performers from all around the world do crazy acrobatics. Or if you come during Chinese New Year in January or February, you can see beautiful lantern displays and fireworks shows. We could get our faces painted and carried through the streets on a dragon dance!
And if we get tired of being tourists in Zhuhai, we could take a short trip over to Macau. It's just an hour away by ferry. Macau is famous for its giant casino hotels, century-old temples, and delicious egg tarts. We're not old enough to gamble yet, but the buildings are amazing to look at all lit up at night. I love wandering around the old Portuguese neighborhoods – it feels like being transported to Europe.
So what do you think, Jackie? Are you excited to come visit me in Zhuhai? I've been practicing my English and can't wait to show you around my city. Just let me know when you can come and we'll start planning your trip. I'll be the best tour guide ever, I promise!
Missing you and can't wait to see you soon! Your pal, Emily
