Should Children of Different Abilities Be
Educated Together or Separately?
There are different opinions concerning the issue whether children of different abilities should be educated together or separately• Though it is true that children can be given special treatment when educated separately, I still think it more beneficial to teach children together.
In the first place, children of different abilities can share with and learn from one another when they are educated together. As is known to all, every person is unique. Children of various abilities and interests being educated together get more opportunities to learn about themselves and other children. When they understand themselves and others better and be more aware of their own defects and merits, they may try to eliminate the defects and strengthen the merits by learning from peers. Undoubtedly, this helps children to grow.
In addition, learning together, children can become more cooperative and learn to get along well with others• When children of different abilities work together to face a challenge, they treat the issue f r om di f f e rent viewpoints z and in the process learn to express themselves and to understand others1 different opinions. They learn to negotiatez to compromise and to reach agreement. These are all useful communicative skills for their future life.
Finally, mixed education can promote all-around development of children1 s characters, while on the contrary, separate education may probably end up hindering their potential development in the future. It is widely acknowledged that one1s talent in different fields does not develop to the same extent. For examplez a child may seem to be talented in painting at age 5z but his real life-time interest may be in dancing. If at age 5, he were put to learn with other children of the same interest (i . e • , painting) z he would probably be deprived of the possibility of learning to dance altogether. However, on the contrary, there are no such risks with mixed education.
To sum up, I think it better to teach children of different ab ilitii 巳 s together • It helps the children to understand each other 1s strengths and shortcomings, to
develop their social skillsz and to promote development of their whole potentials • Even though separate education may be more efficient in addressing each individual1s strengths, its risk of possibly depriving the child of his potentials is so severe that it is just unacceptable.

HAPPINESS
What is happiness? Different people have different ideas• Some people are rich; they think they are happy. Other people have many friends, and they feel happy• For children, happiness often suggests getting goodies or playing with toys. For a stamp collector, stamps bring more delight than meals. And for a scientist, a discovery or an invention rather than anything else gives him the greatest satisfaction. So we know that happiness has much to do with wealth, friendship, material satisfaction, career achievements, and so on. However, all these things alone do not necessarily bring about happiness. The way you treat them decides whether you will be happy or not. That is, it is one1s inner state of mind that decides happiness.
First, external materials do not necessarily make one happy. Material shortage or poverty may cause troubles to us, but those with great hope and an optimistic mind can easily overcome them. Actually, many poor people live happily. On the other hand, there is no lack of news about millionaires committing suicide• Therefore, we cannot depend on material success to be happy.
Then, we may feel good when we are loved, cared, admired or respected by others. However, if we look into these spiritual matters deeper, we understand that it is not others 1 love, care, admiration or respect that makes us happy; it is our own feelings that make us happy. No one can please all others; there are always some people who are kind to you and some who are hostile to you. Therefore, whether you feel happy or not depends on how much you can please those you really care. That explains why Leslie Chan was unhappy and committed suicide even though he had so many fans who loved him so much.
If external material and spiritual matters-do not bring about happiness, then we have to conclude that happiness come from our own mind. For example, imagine you will earn one million yuan this year・ Will you be happy then? Maybe . If last year you only earned 500 thousand yuan, or if all your neighbors, colleagues and friends only earn 900 thousand yuan, there is good reason for you to feel happy. But suppose you earned 5 million yuan last year, or suppose all those you know earn 2 million yuan each, it is doubtful you will still be so happy. Yes, happiness is related to how you define yourself against a certain background.
In a word, happiness, though closely related to external material and spiritual matters such as wealth, health, and other1s care and love, in essence depends on how one treats himself z others and the world.

When to Tell Lies
\"Don't tell lies! 11 Our parents and teachers told us when we were very young. However, during the course of growing up, we began to realize that that might be the biggest lie we have ever been told. We know that we all have at one time or another told lies.
So when do we tell lies? Why do we tell lies even though we know that we should not? Roughly speaking, we tell lies for two reasons.
First, lies are told for social purposes. For instance, you say, 11 You look so beautiful today! You really sing well. It1 s fantastic . 11 HDon11 worry. It1 s just a minor operation. You will recover soon. 11 11 You are a great cook. H However; the truth isz you think she puts on too much cosmetics and sings terribly; she is so sick that the operation might face serious risks; and the beef is too tough. You do no tell the truth because you do not want to make her unhappy, because you want to show that you are well-educated, polite, and good-mannered, because you want to maintain your friendly relationship with her. Such lies for social purposes are normally called nwhite lies11 . We do not tell white lies to cheatz but to ease social interaction. Therefore, they are very common in life.
Second, lies are told to gain military, economic or political benefits. Here we also have two different types of lies : those told to cheat our enemies z and those told to cheat our customers, friends, acquaintances, and other ordinary people. Lies used to cheat our enemies are always praised, and they are related to wisdom. We are happy that Hitler was cheated to believe that the allies would attack Calais instead of Normandy, and we all admire Zhuge Liang 1 s wisdom to cheat Sima Yi into believing that the town where Zhuge Liang was was well prepared for Sima Yi 1 s attack. However, on the other hand, we all resent lies used to cheat us. We are all familiar with lies related to medicines, foods, tourist services, and even governmenta1 statistics. These lies have greatly undermined our benefits, and have done great harm to the economy, commercial ethicsz and social harmony of our country. Measures to stop them must be taken as soon as possible.
All in all, there are two kinds of lies:, those used to facilitate communication, and those used to cheat. It is desirable to lie for social purposes and admirable to lie to our enemies, but we should always be honest when we do business .

What can university students do to help curb global warming?
Global warming is a term always emerging in news headlines, which brings with it sensational statistics and horrible scenes . Undoubtedly, it is a serious and urgent problem for all of us living on the planet. As a university student, I firmly believe that each individual can do our own part to help address this problem.
Firstly, we should have enough education on giobal warming. It should be made clear that global warming is a fact actually happening, and tons of scientific statistics have proved that. We should learn more about what the mainstream science says about it and persuade others to make simple changes in daily life to help alleviate it. People should be educated to understand why some details in our daily life matter and how they can do something to help • If more and more people know the severeness of this issue, pub lie awareness and consciousness will be aroused.
Secondly, we should shop local and buy less if necessary. Oil-burning and vehicle exhaust are the main sources of green gas. Produce and products made locally consume fewer amounts of oil and gas used in transportation chain. In other words, if we shop local, we can spare much carbon foot-prints, apart from saving money. What is more, if we pursue a simple lifestyle and purchase less, fewer products will be consumed. Since fewer product consumption mean less waste to some extent, we can help build a low-carbon world.
Thirdly, we should have the awareness of recycling. Many things can be recycled and reused. As some thinker said, the waste is just something valuabl© in wrong places. We can make the most of everything that can be used more than one time. For instance, the blank side of a printed paper can be used again, food-class plastic containers can be washed and reused.
Fourthly, we can reduce the usage of biologically non-degradable items. Plastic bags, for example, are usually non-degradable although convenient to use • If we prepare shopping bags for ourselves, we don11 need to have plastic bags for holding shopped items. Thus, we help alleviate the pressure that the non-degradab1e waste poses on the natural environment•
In conclusion, we university students should do something in everyday life to help curb global warming. It is time for us to take action. 5、[范

University Education Outweigh Vocation Education
About a decade ago when university graduates were rare, most students could easily find a good job. Now with the graduating population continuing to grow, it1 s getting much harder for them to find a satisfactory job. Many people discard the old belief that university education is necessary because there is no more guarantee for good jobs, and there are people who suggest that university education should be vocation-oriented. However, in doing thatz they could be making a huge mistake.
Universities play a more important role than vocation education • University education, along with primary and secondary school educations z should focus on the understanding about oneself. Human beings are not just born to learn how to feed themselves, but for other more important purposes. It is sad that in our world most people are so busy sustaining a living that they can 11 fully understand and enj oy this ephemeral life. We started to know the world around us and our inner selves when we were little, and this process must continue through our lifetime. Our time in college is a crucial moment because it1 s a gateway into a world full of possibilities and challenges. One must be prepared, not only in his skill to survivez but also the ability to fully live his life ・
Another fact about university education is that although it offers education on job-related skills in certain fields, the one who receives this education doesn11 necessarily get a job in the field. There is a very high percentage of people who change their careers in theft lifetime, especially in younger years when they are still finding out about different kinds of jobs and themselves . At that time, their thoughts are immature, and they may have chosen a wrong major in college but they have the time to fix it later on. When university education is solely concerned with one 1 s future jobs, the disadvantage would be easily seen -- there would be fewer choices in life for the college students because their knowledge is limited in a specific area. Most importantly, a person should be allowed to embrace the full ex- tent of possibilities in life instead of being categorized in their early years.
One day there will come a time when human beings have so advanced technologies that they don11 have to work to survive. Imagine then what would university education be about? Definitely not about one 1 s future vocation, 11 d say. That day may not be today, but the idea does give us a hint of what our university education should really focus on.

Which is more important for you, knowledge from books
or personal experience?
Societies throughout the world seem to have a common belief that reading books benefits people greatly through their whole life. And there is no doubt for that • But knowledge from books has to be applied in real life to prove its value and real life experiences are far more important than knowledge from books.
A few simple questions, how can there be knowledge in the first place? No doubt, it1 s the lessons we learned exploring the strange world around us. So knowledge comes from real life experience. And how was knowledge passed down from one generation to another when books weren1t invented yet? With these asked we come to realize that although books play a great role in the inheritance of knowledge, it has nothing to do with knowledge in the first place. Keeping this in mind, we analyze the disadvantages of knowledge from books •
To begin with, knowledge from books cannot be fully understood until one experiences it in real life. One may read in books that love is a wonderful thing and it also hurts people • Having had this knowledge in mind, one may begin to believe that he knows about love. But not until the day comes when he really falls in love and feels the ecstasy and pain entangled with love can one truly understand the meaning of love. It1 s the same with other things. Knowledge from books just seems shallower compared to personal experiences.
Secondly, knowledge from books can be misleading and not necessarily true . Books are just old knowledge. If one sticks to them and refuses to study the real world, there can be no progress happening in the world・ Great things are created, not learned• And it1 s human creativity that guarantees our bright future •
Finally, knowledge from books would be useless if we don11 apply them in our everyday life. The value of the knowledge in books is little when we just read to know.
It1 s time we stepped out the ivory tower to see the world around us. The essence of life can only be found by living in it. As a line from Lu You goes : Knowledge from books is shallow, and one has to experience something oneself to fully understand it.
