Sally loved cars more than anything else. This spring she thought of building a go-kart to enter for the Go-Go Race. So she asked her dad for help.
“Well,” he said. “How about this: you do some 1 first and then come back to me with a design.”
A week later, Sally brought her 2 and drawings to Dad. She named her go-kart “Blue Lightning”. Dad looked over her work, thinking. “Well, that's interesting,” he said. “Have a try. Just build Blue Lightning 3 you've designed.”
Over three weekends of hard work, Sally 4 her design into a real, working go-kart and painted it light blue. Dad asked her to take it for a test drive. Sally 5 .

“Very good!” Dad said.
“So, why didn't you tell me about that 9 in the first place?” Sally asked.
Dad laughed. “Where's the fun in that? If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. 10 if you teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime.”
Sally said, “I see. 11 , designing is half the fun!”
Dad smiled. “Good. Sometimes, 12 happens during the process. We learn how to do something 13 by doing it a few times first and making mistakes along the way.”
That encouraged Sally and she worked even 14 . When she showed Dad her new go-kart, he nodded with pride.

Passage 1
Years ago, melomys(裸尾鼠) could still be seen running on the Australian island of Bramble Cay. Local fishermen would sometimes see them. One fisherman, Egon Steward, told scientists that he saw a few in 2009.
That was the last time, scientists believe, anyone saw the animal. In February, the Australian government announced that Bramble Cay melomys had gone extinct. It is the first mammal(哺乳动物)
to become extinct because of climate change.
Melomys have never been found outside Bramble Cay. In 1978, several hundred melomys lived on the island. That number had dropped to below 100 by 1998. In December 2011, scientists looking for melomys returned empty-handed.
Melomys were little known. However, people around the world are sad about their extinction. “The melomys was a little brown rat,” said Tim Beshara, a scientist. “But it was our little brown rat. It was our responsibility to protect the animal from extinction. Sadly, we failed.”
It is very likely that the melomys went extinct because of a lack of food. The animals lived on plants. Between 2004 and 2014, however, the number of plants on Bramble Cay reduced by 97 percent. As a result, many melomys had to go hungry. Scientists believe the lack of plants was caused by climate change.
Many native animals in Australia have become extinct. The government has been heavily criticized for doing little to save the earth. “We are suffering from the real effects of climate change,” said Leeanne Enoch, a government official. “How many more species(物种) do we have to lose before we take real action?” he asked angrily.

It has been almost nine years since Chance made a name for himself. At the age of 12, his performance of Lady Gaga's “Paparazzi” gained widespread attention. The video was viewed by over 60 million people on YouTube. What followed was a series of national television appearances and world tours.
