摘要：According to the invention, at least two transport stages (1, 2) are arranged onebehind the other in a transport section, the nominal speed of the respective followingtransport stage (2) in the direction of transport being higher than the nominal speed ofthe preceding transport stage (1 or 2). The speed of the transported mail items (5, 6) isthen measured by scanning said items in front of a following transport stage (2) for amaximum distance that is shorter than the shortest agreed length for a mail item, bymeans of two sensors (3, 4) that are positioned on either side of the transport sectionand the measured results are evaluated if a sensor (3, 4) measures a value that deviatesonly slightly by a defined value from the nominal speed of the following transport stage(2). During the evaluation, an overlap is detected if the speeds measured simultaneouslyby the two sensors (3, 4) differ and the lower measured speed deviates from the highermeasured speed by a defined value.
